I am looking forward to contributing to the contents of this blog. I am a Business Education Major and I teach technology courses. I have seen students that normally do not perform well in a traditional classroom setting, excel in a technology related course. According to an article published in Ed.gov (2007), “when students are using technology as a tool or a support for communicating with others, they are in an active role rather than the passive role of recipient of information transmitted by a teacher, textbook, or broadcast. The student is actively making choices about how to generate, obtain, manipulate, or display information.” Technology enables students to be creative and active in solving problems. Active participation is a key to developing critical thinking skills. Active learning increases the opportunity for students to transfer knowledge that they have acquired in the classroom to real life situations.

I agree with you that active learners become more engaged in the material and learn more, rather than passive learners. I believe this is why it is so crucial that we blog about technology being used in the classroom. Hopefully by us finding research on our topic then this will help teachers or even future teachers use this information to their advantage, and there can be more active learners in their classrooms. I feel that if students are engaged in what they are learning then they will be able to comprehend the material better.
I believe the use of computer technology translates into higher student achievement and improved parent-teacher communication.
I do believe that computer technology is very important for our students today. Not only in our middle and high schools class rooms, but also in our elementary class rooms. As a parent of a 6 grader I see projects, reports, and other homework assignments that needs and would be a lot easier for him to research and report on if he was more experienced in the computer field. Computers are here to stay and I do feel that the earlier our children learn the basic of computer technology the better school experience will be. Also, our older generations need to be more experienced with computer. They need to be able to know what to do when the time comes and they have to use the computer. As with our children today we don't want our older generations left behind either.
Hey Barbara thanks for commenting on our blog. I believe that all students need exposure to computers. Our school is very small and it was only through a grant that we were able to get computers in our classrooms.
